Willemstad's Mega Cruise Terminal is a 10- to 15-minute walk from the UNESCO-listed center, so the city itself costs nothing. Guided tours run $65 to $110 per adult; October to December are the wettest months.

Put in your ship's arrival and all-aboard times from your cruise planner. Each tour is checked against the time you have, minus the buffer you choose for getting off the ship and back to the pier.

Mega Cruise Terminal, Mathey Wharf and Mood Beach
Curaçao Ports Authority runs two cruise terminals in Willemstad. The Mega Cruise Terminal in the west of the city, on the Otrobanda side, has customs and immigration, an information booth, free Wi-Fi and a taxi stand. It also offers wheelchair and ECV rental, car rental, tour operators, bars and souvenir shops. Mathey Wharf, inside the harbour entrance, has customs, an information booth, restrooms, a taxi stand, tour operators and shops but no Wi-Fi or car rental. The port counted 287 cruise calls and 710,623 passengers in 2023, against 314 calls and 809,874 passengers in 2019.
The Curaçao Tourist Board puts the walk from the Mega Pier into town at about 10 to 15 minutes, past Renaissance Mall and Rif Fort, and says Mathey Wharf is closer to the Handelskade waterfront. The Queen Emma pontoon bridge between Otrobanda and Punda is free to cross and swings open whenever a ship passes. Taxis are not metered, so agree the fare before getting in. Public minibuses link the main beaches with Punda and Otrobanda in 10 to 40 minutes. The tourist board's desk is open from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
Irie Tours meets its cruise guests at the cruise ship terminal, without naming which one, and offers no hotel pickup on those tours. Curaçao Tours includes hotel pickup within the Willemstad area and names no terminal meeting point. BlueFinn Charters sails from Mood Beach on Mambo Boulevard, which its FAQ puts 20 to 30 minutes from the cruise terminal; the tourist board puts Mambo Beach 2.7 miles from Punda. Cruise guests on BlueFinn should check in by 9:45 am.
Willemstad keeps Atlantic Standard Time, UTC minus 4, and does not observe daylight saving. From the first Sunday in November to the second Sunday in March, when Florida is on Eastern Standard Time, Curaçao runs an hour ahead of the Florida home ports; in summer the clocks match. Curaçao Ports Authority publishes no call times on its terminal or statistics pages, so take arrival and all-aboard times from the ship.
Irie Tours' City Highlights starts at 9:30 am and takes 4 hours, ending back at the ship or in the city center, whichever the guest prefers. Its All West Beach Hopping half day starts at 9 am and takes 5 hours. Curaçao Tours says its shore excursions are timed to the ship schedule; its full island tour runs 7 hours from 9 am on Tuesdays and Fridays.
BlueFinn's catamaran snorkel sails only on Fridays, from 10 am to 3 pm, with 1 to 1.5 hours of that under sail. Its FAQ says a ship that docks early should allow check-in by 9:45 am, that cruise guests join at their own risk, and that late arrival or a no-show brings no refund. None of the three operators states a back-to-ship guarantee.
Playa Piskado turtles, Shete Boka and the Tugboat
Irie Tours' $65 City Highlights (children 4 to 12, $45, infants free) walks Frederikstraat's murals in Otrobanda and drives through Scharloo to Landhuis Chobolobo for a liqueur tasting. It goes on to Fort Waakzaamheid of 1803, Parke di Lucha di Libertad, the salt lake with its wild flamingos and Que Tapa Beach, with entrance fees included. Its $80 All West Beach Hopping half day (children $60) goes to the Boca Tabla cave in Shete Boka National Park, snorkels with sea turtles at Playa Piskado and swims at Kenepa Beach. Snorkel gear is included and beach chairs are extra.
BlueFinn Charters' $110 Friday catamaran (children 4 to 12, $55) makes two snorkel stops with a light lunch buffet and open bar between them. The first may be the Tugboat, a sunken tug covered in coral and sponges. Other sites are the Saba wreck, Doggy Beach and the Caracas Bay pier, chosen by conditions on the day, and the second stop may bring turtles or rays. Curaçao Tours sells its City, Cave & Coast highlights from $75 per person without listing stops or times, and its 7-hour island tour from $109.
Carnival's Curacao Treasures, Lagoon Turtle Swim & Lunch is $139.99 per adult for 6 hours. NCL's Snorkel And Beach Break is $119.99 for about 4.5 hours at a beach club with a pool. The snorkeling has a minimum age of 8, the sand is about 20 steps down, and beachfront chairs are not included.
Terminal meetups, FBTT Travel and own-risk sailing
Irie Tours is the only one of the three that meets guests at the cruise terminal, and the only one that ends at the ship on request. Its two cruise tours are listed as seasonal without months. The data records its policy as a full refund with more than 24 hours' notice, nothing later or for no-shows, and rescheduling or a refund when weather cancels. Its tour pages link to that policy rather than stating it.
Curaçao Tours, operated by FBTT Travel B.V. at Seru di Mahuma 18-20, calls itself an official cruise line partner for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival and MSC. It allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start and gives a full refund or free rebooking when it cancels for weather or safety. It takes Visa, MasterCard and American Express, and walk-in cash in US dollars, euros or ANG. Children under 12 must be with an adult, and full payment is due at booking.
BlueFinn Charters makes no promise to cruise passengers. Its FAQ says they join at their own risk, late arrival means no refund, and group sizes vary. Its fleet page lists TopCat at up to 40 guests, BlueFinn at 65 and Apache and Red Dragon at 95. The trip runs in light rain, and in extreme weather the company contacts guests to reschedule or refund. Babies may come aboard, though the boat has no baby facilities.
Watching from shore
Queen Emma Bridge. The floating pontoon bridge between Otrobanda and Punda is free to cross and swings open whenever a ship passes, which is why locals call it the Swinging Old Lady.
Punda and the Handelskade. Punda was laid out as a walled city in 1634, and the historic area of Willemstad has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The Handelskade is its waterfront row of pastel Dutch colonial buildings, across the bridge from the Mega Pier.
Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue. Built in 1674 by Sephardic Portuguese Jews in Punda, it is described by Wikipedia as the oldest surviving synagogue in the Americas. The building can be seen from the street; the museum beside it charges admission.
Before you book
Curaçao's currency is the Caribbean guilder (XCG), introduced on March 31, 2025 and pegged at US$1 = 1.79 XCG. The old Netherlands Antillean guilder stopped being legal tender on July 1, 2025.
Taxis are not metered, so agree the fare before getting in, the Curaçao Tourist Board advises.
Irie Tours asks beach guests to bring water shoes, sunscreen, a towel, a hat and sunglasses; beach chairs are not included on its west coast tour.
BlueFinn says to keep valuables to a minimum, because the crew is not responsible for loss or theft, and that guests may bring their own snorkel gear.
The independent tours listed here run from $65 (Irie Tours' City Highlights) to $110 (BlueFinn's Friday catamaran snorkel). Carnival sells Curacao Treasures, Lagoon Turtle Swim & Lunch for $139.99 per adult, and NCL's Snorkel And Beach Break is $119.99.
How far is the Mega Pier from Punda and the shops?
Curaçao's tourist board puts the Mega Pier about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from town, with Mathey Wharf closer still. The Queen Emma pontoon bridge between Otrobanda and Punda swings open when ships pass and is free to cross.
